Community Connections Australia is a not-for-profit company, limited by guarantee, originally founded in 1987 as Residential Care Inc. Its initial mission was to transition people with disabilities out of institutional and congregate care settings into independent, community-based living arrangements. In 2001, the organization adopted its current name to more accurately reflect the core values driving its service delivery.
The organization’s approach is grounded in the belief that, whenever possible, individuals should have the opportunity to live in their own homes with people of their choosing, supported by services that promote autonomy and independence. This philosophy emphasizes that services must be flexible and tailored to the individual. Recognizing that most people thrive in their own home environments, Community Connections Australia extends this principle to people with disabilities, advocating for living arrangements that align with broader community standards.
Community Connections Australia holds the view that while it provides essential accommodation options, the overall quality of life for those it supports is derived from their integration into the community. The organization has witnessed the profound personal growth that comes when individuals are recognized and valued within their community, beyond the scope of disability services. Consequently, its focus is on developing skills and confidence, empowering individuals to navigate and participate in their chosen communities, fostering independence, and understanding their rights and responsibilities.
