Uralla Shire Council, established under the Local Government Act on December 5, 1947, and officially in operation from January 1, 1948, is a sizable and diverse organization employing over 160 staff. The council manages assets exceeding $300 million across 32 different service areas, with an annual operating budget of approximately $20 million.
Covering an expansive area of around 3,230 square kilometres, the Uralla Shire local government serves a permanent resident population of approximately 6,048 people (2016 census). The central township is Uralla, situated 22 kilometres south of Armidale and 89 kilometres north of Tamworth on the New England Highway.
Encompassing various localities, including Abington, Arding, Bakers Creek, Balala, and more, the council is organized into two wards, "A" and "B," each represented by four elected councillors. The Shire has a rich history, with Uralla Township proclaimed a village in 1855 and the Uralla Shire Council formed by the amalgamation of Uralla Municipal Council and Gostwyck Shire Council on January 1, 1948.

The interview panel will review your application against the position requirements and selection criteria and shortlist suitable candidates. Generally, your interview will consist of an interview panel with three members. The interview panel will use behavioural questions to determine if your skills and experience match those required for the position you applied for. We seek a full-time Trainee Water and Sewer Operator to join the team! Supporting you while you undertake training.
The primary purpose of this position is to assist with the operation and maintenance of the Council's water and sewerage treatment systems, networks and equipment to ensure compliance with health, environmental and customer service requirements and standards.
The position aims to train and develop the successful applicant to become a qualified and competent Water and Sewer Operator within the Council’s water & sewer team. The trainee will assist the water & sewer team with day-to-day operations and maintenance to gain experience and understanding of water supply and sewerage activities including construction works. On successful completion of the required qualifications, the position will progress on the Council's salary structure.
This role includes call-out rotation and work on weekends and public holidays.
