The Extend Group story

Extend

Extend is Australia's largest family-owned and operated Outside School Hours Care (OSHC) provider. Our Before and After School Care and Holiday programs are engaging, inclusive and safe. Coupled with our knowledgeable, compassionate and energetic Educators, there is a good reason why Extend is the place for your children to thrive, learn, laugh and play.

Since 2002, Extend has enriched the lives of children across Australia, we've partnered with extraordinary schools and have helped parents balance work with family life. Most rewardingly, we have had the privilege of shaping young minds, witnessing their growth and development during their most important years, and making a real difference to children's lives. We are tremendously proud of what we have achieved and excited about the journey ahead. Extend offers extraordinary support for extraordinary schools so join us and aim for extraordinary!

VillageOSHC

VillageOSHC partners with schools Australia-wide to keep children safe and happy, offering outside school hours care as parents work or study. We specialise in providing high quality, affordable and safe options for families who need Before School Care, After School Care and School Holiday Programs. In addition, our schools benefit through a generous return that will advance the whole school community.

Our values are simple but important: Empowerment, Safety, Fun, Play and Respect.
In our care, children make new friends, build on old friendships, get exercise, eat healthy food, embrace their imagination, and have loads of fun in a safe and respectful environment. That's why Parents partner with us.

Recruitment Process

Posting Job ADs

Once a job has been identified it is then posted on online job boards and the Extend website.

Screening and inviting to interview

The Selected candidates will be phone screened and they will be asked the following questions:

  1. Can you please confirm your qualifications to work in child care?
  2. Why did you apply to work in the OSHC sector? Why this role?
  3. What are the top three things you like about working with children?

Assess how well they communicate, how friendly they are, and how enthusiastic they are.

If they are successful, they will be invited to the next interview which is the 1st interview.

Interviews are run twice a week on Tuesday and Thursday from 12.00 pm – 12.45 pm. These are currently conducted via Zoom due to the COVID-19 Restrictions.

Interviewing

Programs Managers interview Educators. There is an NSW/QLD/ACT interview and a VIC/SA/WA interview running concurrently. The Educators are asked a series of questions to identify the following personality attributes:

  • Can-do attitude
  • Desire to assist
  • Willingness and motivation to enthusiastically care for children

Successful Assistant candidates are offered jobs at the end of the interview.

For Coordinators, the Programs Manager will give them a call immediately after the interview to go through further questions which are specific to the role for which they have applied. If successful, they are offered jobs at the end of that phone call.

Reference Checking

Applicants are required to provide Extend with two professional references via email at the conclusion of the interview (email and phone number). Their job offer is subject to successful references checks but we continue with the preparation of the contract while we complete reference checks. The two occur simultaneously.

Offer and Contract

Successful applicants are called to confirm the offer of the position. Whilst on the phone, confirm the following details with the applicant.

  • Address
  • Qualification
  • Pay Rate

Extend will accommodate any questions that they may have about the position or about Extend

Onboarding

Once an applicant has completed their contract pack, the onboarding process begins.

Ready to Roster

Once the applicant is ready to roster, Extend will email them to introduce them to their Programs Manager and ask the Programs Manager in that email to call them to confirm the start date and any questions they may have.

Remuneration & Career Growth

Offer and Contract

Once the applicant is selected Extend will call the applicant to confirm the offer of the position. Whilst on the phone, confirm the address, qualifications and Pay Rate. The rates and pay level are determined by the current 'Children Services Award' rates. These pay levels are updated annually.

Educators finishing Degrees

If an educator has finished their degree their pay rate will be updated. The employee is required to send through the graduation certificate/testamur and the pay rate is adjusted as per the day of the certificate. Any back pay for shifts that occurred from the day the certificate was effected will be paid.

Anniversary pay

Every employee's salary and pay rates will be reviewed annually and will be adjusted as per Fairworks award pay guides. This exercise is done every month

Incentive Programs

Educators can refer a friend or family member to apply with Extend. If that applicant was successful and stayed with Extend for three months, the educator who referred them would receive a $100 bonus.

We provide career growth within the organisation for all employees who are eligible for upcoming positions. We create a conducive work environment while giving opportunity for our staff to showcase their true potential. Our remuneration policies attempt to attract the best talent in the workforce while being aligned with respective awards and the National Employment Standards.
