Business Administration Officer Trainee (Identified)

The Organisation 

The Illawarra Local Aboriginal Land Council (ILALC) is incorporated under the Aboriginal Land Rights Act NSW 1983 and covers an area from Helensburgh to Gerroa and includes the Southern Highlands areas from Tallong to Kangaroo Valley.

ILALC’s key role is to improve, protect and foster the best interests of its members and community. This can only be achieved through land acquisition, land management, cultural education, sustainable development and the development of programs and initiatives with positive and tangible outcomes, as led by the engagement and participation of our members and community.

The Role

The Business Administration Officer Trainee (Identified) is responsible for supporting the ILALC office with organisation, scheduling, coordination and records management. Key duties include front of house reception services answering phones, emails and post; managing bookings for conferences, community workshops, networking events and travel; ordering office supplies and managing stock control; filing documents and records management and other general administrative duties as required.

 Essential Criteria

  • Minimum of School Certificate, and willingness to complete Traineeship in Certificate III in Business (Administration).
  • Good verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to take phone calls, respond to general queries, and prepare general correspondence, I.e., forms, documents, and letters. 
  • Ability to use the internet, email, and social media, preferably Facebook and LinkedIn to create and share content online.
  • Be proactive and work independently
  • Ability to solve problems, manage time effectively and prioritise multiple tasks to meet deadlines. 
  • Knowledge of the local Aboriginal community. 

Desirable Criteria 

  • Experience in front office, reception, or client facing customer service role  
  • Experience in the use of Microsoft Office tools, including Outlook, Word, Excel etc.

  • Confirmation of Aboriginality,
  • Criminal History Check (CRC),
  • Working with Children Check (WWCC)
