Big Brown House (BBH) is a community-based organisation focused on holistic family support and child protection. We offer quality, therapeutic services with a focus on providing families, children and young people with the opportunity to access support that assists in building positive outcomes. Some of the services we provide include Supervised Contact, In-Home Family Respite, Early Intervention Parent Support Program, Mentoring, Family Group Conferencing and Emergency Respite / OOHC.

Big Brown House was established in 2011 as a response to assist the Family Court and community with supportive family services in Newcastle, NSW.

We have since expanded our services to the Hunter, Central Coast, Sydney, Mid North Coast and Western areas of NSW.

We are a Designated Agency, accredited with the Office of the Children's Guardian to provide Out of Home Care services such as:

  • Residential and Foster Care,
  • Non-Home Based Emergency Care
  • Voluntary Out of Home Care
  • In addition to this, we are also a provider of STEP placements

Recruitment Process

Essential Criteria:

  • Completed or working towards a relevant industry qualification (or relevant experience).
  • Experience in a similar role and or the ability to lead, supervise and support staff.
  • Current paid NSW Working with Children Check.
  • Clear and Current National Criminal History Check.
  • Current First Aid Certificate.
  • An Australian Driver's License (must be open and valid license and a reliable and comprehensively insured car).
  • Ability to work as a team and communicate effectively with all stakeholders

Our staff undertake the following training:

  • Evidence based crisis prevention and intervention, TCI.
  • Joint Protocol and Behaviour Management
  • Understanding the impact of trauma and supporting children who have experienced trauma.

In addition to this our staff undertake orientation training and complete a buddy shift prior to commencing solo shifts.
