Your new role:

The Vinnies Van Services Assistant will support the smooth operation of Vinnies Van Services providing outreach services to people experiencing or at risk of homelessness in the Wollongong region.  You will work collaboratively with the Team Leader and other team members to ensure day to day activities are carried out in a time-efficient manner.  Your ability to work with a diverse range of people and commitment to social justice are important to this role.  

Your responsibilities: 

  • Maintain accurate records of stock, equipment and assets at each Van site and provide information to the Vinnies Van Team Leader regarding the purchase of supplies.
  • Receive, unpack and sort deliveries and donations.
  • Assist in maintaining all Van services facilities including the storerooms, kitchen, storage cupboards and equipment are maintained hygienically and in accordance with WHS requirements.
  • Assist in maintaining the Van services vehicles in accordance with safety and the service’s requirements.
  • Report risks or potential hazards to the Metro Van Services Coordinator.
  • Drive the service’s vehicles to meal services, community events; pick up and drop off donations as required
  • Ensure service vehicles are maintained in accordance with safety and service requirements.
  • Be available for on-call support for volunteers running the services

 You will need: 

  • Demonstrated time management and organisational skills and the capacity to be self-motivating.
  • Commitment to maintain a high standard of WHS practices in the workplace.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with a diverse range of people in an inclusive manner.
  • High level of commitment to social justice and client service.
  • NSW driver licence (Class C) (unrestricted) and the confidence and capability to drive a 7-seater van and a small truck.
