The Role 

Exciting opportunity to join Vinnies with a Paid Placement in the AOD sector. This opportunity will open doors to gaining new skills and help unlock a great potential career with Vinnies. You will be joining a supportive and inclusive team, where you can contribute meaningfully to the community and make a real difference to people's lives. 

Your new role will include:

  • Conducting health assessments & be the first point of contact for treatment & referral for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander patients.
  • Develop and review individual case management plans.
  • Coordinate a range of clinical services and supports the patient  in accessing mental health, alcohol and other drug, and community programmes.
  • Carry out patient health care duties such as treating and monitoring patients with alcohol and other drug concerns, mental health and family health care.
  • Provide information about chronic disease care & carry out observations (temperature, pulse, blood pressure, respiration).
  • Assist in patient follow up, including checking general health status and identify when other services are required.
  • Provide information and support changes in healthy lifestyle, such as nutrition, exercise and smoking cessation.
  • Collaborating effectively with other health care professionals to ensure a multidisciplinary approach to client care and promote cultural safety for patients..
  • Develop and implement health promotion & health education programs.

To be successful in this role, you will need: 

  • Be Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander.
  • Be currently or about to undertake a Certificate IV in Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander primary health practice
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Willingness to gain a first aid certificate.
  • Willingness to work as part of a team
  • Ability to maintain an ethical, non-judgmental, attitude towards clients and staff, and commitment to this
