    Summary/Objective:

    The Apprentice Metal Fabricator will undertake all aspects of the following role. Metal Fabricators are responsible for the safe set-up and operation of fabricating machines to produce products meeting customer quality requirements for a variety of manufacturing needs. This position includes but is not limited to supporting the production team by assembling parts, operating machinery, and fabrication of products, as well as cleaning and maintaining equipment and the production floor.

    Essential functions, duties and responsibility include but are not limited to:

    • Operate and set-up the fabricating machines such as CNC Laser, CNC press brakes and drill presses and other machinery used in the production process, or assist other machine operators
    • Develop layout and plans sequence of operations for fabricating and assembling structural metal products
    • Locate and mark bending and cutting lines onto workpiece, allowing for stock thickness and machine and welding shrinkage
    • Establish proper stop location, adjust laser beam focal point
    • Position, align, fit and weld together parts, using jigs, welding torch and hand tools
    • Select and set-up conditions based on material type and thickness, load programs, set machine parameters and proper fixtures to ensure optimal performance of the equipment
    • Set up and operate machine tools associated with fabricating
    • Study and interpret assembly instructions
    • Read and interpret sketches
    • Understands start-up and shut down for fabricating machines
    • Be able to identify and diagnose machining problems while performing jobs, making modifications as needed after consultation with supervisor
    • Operate overhead cranes, tape measure, calipers and hand tools
    • Provide a great level of attention to detail and focus on the given task
    • Maintains safe operations by adhering to safety procedure and regulations
    • Detect and report defective materials or questionable conditions
    • Ability to calculate, blank sizes, bend locations, appropriate tonnage and tooling for each part being formed
    • Must be familiar with the basic machine functions in order to perform the tasks stated above
    • Must be able to operate with minimal supervision once trained by following work instructions and standard operating procedures
    • Wear proper safety equipment and comply with company safety rules at all times
    • Must be willing to accept and receive supervision and assistance
    • Maintain a safe working environment by adhering to WHS standards, policies and procedures
    • Make a positive contribution to maintaining a workplace that is healthy, safe, neat and tidy
    • Willing to be trained in additional skills to further develop skill set
