Your role 

We’re in search of a new addition to our hair family. As a small business with a wealth of experience, we are eager to support Junior Hairstylists looking to refine their skills and explore opportunities the modern hairdressing industry has to offer. 

We are seeking a passionate Junior Hairstylist who will play a crucial role in ensuring that our clients receive exceptional service while also promoting our commitment to sustainability. Responsibilities include: 

• Consult with clients to understand their hair care needs and preferences
• Provide expert advice on suitable hairstyles, cuts, colors, and treatments
• Perform basic hair care services and assist experienced hairdressers in performing complex services for clients
• Keep up-to-date with the latest trends and techniques in hairdressing
• Utilise eco-friendly products and techniques that align with our sustainability goals
• Ensure a high level of customer satisfaction by delivering outstanding service
• Maintain a clean and organized work area and adhere to salon hygiene standards
• Educate clients on hair care techniques and recommend sustainable hair care products
• Assist in managing salon inventory and product orders
• Collaborate with the team to maintain a positive and cohesive salon environment
• Participate in ongoing training and professional development opportunities

Training, development, and rotations 

As a Junior Hairstylist, you will have opportunities to learn from our experienced hairdressers daily. We are keen to help refine your technical skills and support you in understanding and addressing each client’s hair needs. We will provide opportunities for you to attend upskilling courses, assist with fashion industry events, and access our outline education portal. We’ll take the time to understand your career goals and tailor your training as much as possible to meet them. We also look forward to learning from you and taking inspiration from your creativity, knowledge, and enthusiasm. 

Salary & benefits 

• Competitive compensation - $22.86 - $23.67 per hour (Saturday rates $30.40 - $31.48) + superannuation, to be agreed based on experience level
• Commission structure - 10% (excl. GST) on service and product sales

Career progression

Salon Stories is a growing business that will allow our new team members to expand their experience quickly and build their careers alongside the business growth. The Junior Hairstylist role is a part-time position with the potential to become full-time to meet the evolving needs of the business and ambitions of the person who fills this role. 

Work-life balance 

Salon Stories is open five days a week (Tuesday - Saturday) giving our team an ongoing ‘weekend’ of two days to relax work-free. We are committed to confirming shift times at least 3 days in advance. We appreciate that our team members have lives outside of the salon. We aim to build two-way trust that respects each individual's needs for work-life balance while also supporting the growth of their careers and the business.

About you 

We are seeking a creative professional open to learning new skills and delivering exceptional experiences to our clients so they completely love their hair. We’re looking for a Junior Hairstylist to join Salon Stories that has the following qualifications and attributes: 

• Valid hairdressing certification
• Excellent communication and customer service skills
• Creative mindset and a keen eye for detail
• Passion for sustainability and willingness to embrace eco-friendly practices
• Ability to adapt and multi-task during busy periods
• Knowledge of the latest hairdressing trends and techniques
• Entry-level experience as a hairstylist is desired, but not essential
