Due to internal movements, we have exciting opportunities for Plant / Diesel Fitters to join our Equipment and Maintenance Services team in Toowoomba on a permanent full-time basis. 

In this role you will be responsible for performing planned and reactive maintenance tasks safely and effectively on all our infrastructure, plant and equipment to ensure that it meets the standards and maximises operational performance on track. 

You will work predominately between the hours of 0700 to 1600 on a 9-day fortnight which may include some weekends and public holidays as part of the roster. You must have the flexibility to travel and work across the district predominately in Toowoomba and Roma however there may be requirements for you to travel to Barcaldine and Maryborough. 

About our Team

Our Regional Assets team provides essential infrastructure maintenance, delivery and rail traffic management services for regional Queensland customers, communities and industry across the Southwest, West Moreton, Near North Coast and Central West. 

Reporting to the Plant Maintenance Coordinator, you will work closely with a supportive and tightknit team of approximately five other fitters and five electricians in Toowoomba. They are a team that work closely together and provide additional support to our teams in Roma Barcaldine and Maryborough. 

About the role

  • Scheduled preventative maintenance and services, on a range of plant and machinery including chainsaws, portable air compressors, earth moving machinery, on track vehicles.
  • Practice effective troubleshooting methods to repair plant breakdowns to minimise downtime.
  • Prepare and provide plant maintenance documentation and reports in accordance with the Scheduled Assured Maintenance (SAM) System and as required by the Supervisor.
  • Participate in programs and training to ensure high performance levels through succession planning, staff appraisals, development and training to meet customer and business needs.

About you

Your ability to problem solve, work to deadlines and communicate effectively will be the key to your success in this role. 

  • Previous experience in maintaining, troubleshooting and repairing a range of different plant and equipment.
  • Solid understanding on preventative maintenance to improve reliability and availability.
  • Substantial level of interpersonal, oral and written communication skills to actively participate in an environment of teamwork, effective workplace and customer relationships.
  • Sound problem solving, analytical and quality improvement skills.

Mandatory requirements to be considered for this opportunity:

  • Engineering/ Trade Certificate/ Mechanical

What is on offer:

  • 9-day fortnight generally between the hours of 0700 to 1600 however flexibility to work some weekends and public holidays may be required.
  • Permanent opportunity with potential earnings of up to $85,000 including starting annual base salary of $62,868 + superannuation and potential allowances and overtime.
  • Paid training and ongoing support to develop your experience including the opportunity to complete a paid Cert IV Engineering qualification with access to internal vacancies.
