My duties of my role fluctuate quite regularly. I would appreciate a steadier workload. However, the work is meaningful and does make an impact to our clients so at the end of the day, you feel a nice sense of accomplishment, belonging to an essential team in delivering change.

I am working as a database administrator. My day-to day responsibilities are: Regularly checking database performance to ensure it runs efficiently. Preparing for data recovery in case of hardware failure or data corruption, and running recovery drills. Granting or revoking access to the database, ensuring only authorized users can access sensitive data. Setting up and managing high-availability solutions (e.g., replication, clustering) to ensure the database is always accessible.

Just over a year into grad program I got an information security specialist (ao5) role. working in cyber security operations, my day looks something like this: work with frontline officers or other internal teams to troubleshoot/diagnose network issues (Use enterprise firewalls, web proxies and email gateways, Splunk), work on exciting projects like firewall replacements or implementing new enterprise tools, vulnerability scanning and Incident Response (reverse engineering malware, analysing logs for potential compromise, or working with internal staff who report incidents)
