There are always opportunities for promotion here. To move up the ranks, its important to talk to different teams. Make yourself known, express your interest by asking to learn more about promotion opportunities. Being aware of what is happening in other teams and around the organisation is key to being able to put yourself into a position to take advantage of opportunities.

I think communication, acquiring skillset, curiosity to learn new technologies, owning the work and work commitments can lead you to work in different teams and at different positions.

Progression prospect is there, but requires own initiative to apply outwards. Direct promotion does not exists here.

There are plenty of opportunities available to progress to and I am eagerly waiting for the next one to come past so that I can go for gold. I am really trained to be one of the best with the technologies I work with and know that the skills I gather will last me a lifetime

I can't say I know much about progression. A lot of it has to do with the available positions/reliefs and managerial staff being proactive in getting their staff promoted or into other roles with higher AO levels.

It requires a position to get created (can take months) and promotions aren't possible without someone leaving or a position created.

Depends on what positions are available at the time. You may have the opportunity to act in a higher-level position for a period of time if the occupant is seconded elsewhere or on leave. You can also be appointed to backfill a position for up to 6 months before it has to be advertised to the public (often used for the period between when the position is created and the successful interview candidate starts).

Exhibit skills and opportunities will be afforded to you. There is a hard limit of how high you can get to be while avoiding directorate (or higher) which would ruin any chances of practicing software development anymore.

In the grad program I already went from an acting AO4 to a permanent AO5 in just over a year of being here. If you put in the work it won't go unnoticed.

Line and team manager are very supportive of higher duties and other methods of promotion, but its difficult to do.

There are a lot of roles open in my team but I feel I do not have the skills to work in those roles as I feel that I've been held back in my learning.
