Your role
The QAL Graduate Development Program (GDP) is a two-year program, that is designed to expose graduates to a variety of professional experiences to ensure that by the end of the two years, you have developed the skills necessary to become a key member of the QAL team, actively contributing to and improving the business’s performance.
This role allows you to apply your degree in Environmental Science, Engineering or similar to broaden your skills, apply knowledge and gain practical experience in a diverse industrial environment through exposure to the broad range of functions across the site.
Reporting to the Superintendent – Environment in the Health Safety Environment and Tailings Department, key role responsibilities include:
- Ensuring all work is performed in accordance with site health, environmental and community policies, systems and procedures
- Developing a comprehensive understanding of the QAL plant process, operations and procedures
- Working in a safe environmentally responsible manner with specialised consultants, contractors and research organisations
- Completing in-field sampling, preparing reports and contributing to improving QAL’s operational environmental performance
- Supporting the enhancement of environmental management systems to continue QAL’s move to a position of environmental stewardship
- Assisting internal and external stakeholders to achieve on-the-ground improvements as well as representing QAL at relevant environmental forums
About you
What you will bring
To be successfully considered for this role, you should have:
- Completed a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science (or an equivalent discipline) within the last twelve months or with an anticipated completion date before the end of September 2024
- A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team
- Outstanding written and interpersonal communication skills with a strong academic record
- Familiarity with the Bayer Process, mining or heavy industry (advantageous)
- Initiative and desire to continuously improve with a willingness to face and find creative ways to overcome new challenges
- Ability to consistently meet established deadlines

Graduates engage in a structured program with induction and field placements throughout the plant to consolidate theoretical knowledge and gain practical experience in operational and project environments.
