Outreach Workers encourage Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to access health services and help to ensure that services are culturally competent. They have strong links to the community they work in. Outreach Workers carry out non-clinical tasks, e.g. helping clients to travel to their medical appointments.

Candidates will need to meet the following criteria:

  1. Be able to identify and address barriers faced by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people when accessing mainstream primary care services, including but not limited to primary care, pharmacy, allied health and specialists.
  2. Demonstrated ability to develop and disseminate resources for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people about accessing services and managing chronic disease.
  3. Ability to establish links with local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities to promote the importance of improving health outcomes and encourage and support the increased use of health services. This includes MBS Health Assessments for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and MBS care planning and follow-up items. They should also identify Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who would benefit from improved access to these health services.
  4. This is an Identified Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander Position. Applicants for this position must be of Aboriginal descent through parentage, identification as being Aboriginal and being accepted in the community as such. An applicant's race is a genuine occupational qualification and is authorised under Section 14(d) of the NSW Anti-Discrimination Act 1977.

All NSW Health workers are required to have two doses of a COVID-19 vaccine, as defined by NSW Health. Employees working in a clinical area or are required to attend clinical areas are considered category A. Category A positions are required to provide evidence of having received three doses of COVID-19 vaccine in accordance with the Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (TGA) and meet the requirements of the Occupational Assessment Screening and Vaccination Against Specified Infectious Diseases Policy Directive.

Acceptable proof of vaccination is the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR) Immunisation History Statement or AIR COVID-19 Digital Certificate.
