An exciting opportunity exists for an Aboriginal Health Worker with a strong interest in and commitment to supportive and palliative care to join the very experienced and dedicated NSLHD Supportive & Palliative Care team.
Based at Royal North Shore Hospital, St Leonards but working across Northern Sydney Local Health District. Supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to access Palliative Care Services.
This is an Identified Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander Position. Applicants for this position must be of Aboriginal descent through parentage, identification as being Aboriginal and being accepted in the community as such. An applicant's race is a genuine occupational qualification and is authorised under Section 14(d) of the NSW Anti-Discrimination Act 1977.
Northern Sydney Local Health District deems it appropriate to seek confirmation of Aboriginality status from applicants applying for Aboriginal identified positions. Confirmation of Aboriginality can be provided as evidence via:
- a confirmation with a common seal on it from an Aboriginal organisation; or
- a reference letter stating that the person is Aboriginal and accepted by the community. (The letter must be supplied by an Aboriginal organisation).
All NSW Health workers are required to have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine by 30 September 2021 and two doses by 30 November 2021 or have an approved medical contraindication certificate. You will be required to provide a record of your COVID-19 vaccination status if successful.
Candidates will need to meet the following criteria:
- Consistently demonstrates behaviours that reinforce the CORE Values of our organisation; Collaboration, Openness, Respect and Empowerment. Demonstrates these behaviours with all stakeholders; colleagues, direct reports, as well as our patients and consumers, and those that care for them.
- Be of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent (Note – This is a genuine occupational qualification and is authorised by section 14 of the Anti-Discrimination act 1977 NSW)
- Certificate III in Aboriginal Primary Health Care or working towards or equivalent and/or relevant work experience.
- Demonstrated understanding of Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander culture and the issues affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people including their primary health and welfare needs and experience in providing support for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
- High-level skills in time management, liaison and negotiation, including the ability to work as a member of a multidisciplinary team in a high demand environment with competing demands.
- High level is written and verbal communication skills, with experience in providing support and advocacy for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients, families and carers.
- Effective skills in a range of office computer applications including Microsoft Office Suite
- Current Driver's License and willingness to travel as required.
