Purpose

Reporting to the Director for Litigation, the legal assistant as part of the litigation support team, provides administrative support to a team of experienced litigation lawyers.

The legal assistant effectively supports the team by drafting and lodging documents, completing legal research, maintaining files, liaising with stakeholders, and coordinating meetings, required documents, and processing these as well as tracking cases to keep the team abreast of deadlines. As such, the legal assistant is required to possess strong organisational and communication skills, as well as an ability to complete tasks timely and accurately under minimal supervision.

Key Capabilities, Qualifications and Experience

  • Excellent time management and organisational skills
  • Strong verbal, written and interpersonal skills with the ability to provide clear, concise, and accurate documentation.
  • Demonstrated capability in data entry & strong attention to detail
  • Proficient MS Office and computer skills
  • A positive, can-do attitude and team player

Principal Accountabilities

  • Administrative duties to assist in the creation of new files, including extracting data from Affinity, PDF document binding and hyperlinking of PDF references.
  • Drafting general correspondence (e.g., letter of advice, briefing letter to barristers);
  • Drafting briefs and court documents (e.g., Briefs, cost assessment applications, Short Minutes of Order, Affidavits of Service, Court Bundles);
  • Filing all electronic court documents with Supreme, County, Magistrates and Federal Courts online
  • Liaising with clients and various stakeholders via email and phone
  • Arranging and attending settlement conferences and mediations and finalising matters post settlement.
  • Preparing Cost Schedules
  • Reviewing and/or creating case summaries and articles; and undertaking legal research
  • Assisting with discovery tasks
  • Assisting lawyers with the conduct of cases
  • Managing diaries, keeping track of case pipeline schedules and deadlines
  • Liaising with internal and external stakeholders in the collating of documents, arranging meetings, supporting the process through to completion.
