The position:  

MRA Consulting Group is seeking a full-time consultant to coordinate two separate business waste programs until June 2026. The position is based in Albury and will work with commercial food generators to reduce food waste going to landfill and the manufacturing sector across the Riverina and Murray region to find innovative solutions to keep manufacturing waste out of landfill. It is a 3-year full time position. The role is part of, and supported by, the MRA education team. 

This is a role for an organised hands-on project manager that has a genuine interest in making a positive difference in the region’s waste. Candidates need to have work experience in either community or business engagement, communications, with an understanding of waste, the circular economy, food waste and the recycling industry in Australia. Candidates with other backgrounds, such as planning, engineering, manufacturing or other disciplines will also be considered.    

About the role:

The role will be responsible for implementing 2 Bin Trim projects across the region. Bin Trim is a NSW EPA Program that uses visual waste assessments to assist businesses to develop action plans to change waste behaviours. 

The Bin Trim Networks Commercial Food Program reaches commercial food generators (restaurants, clubs, cafes) to:

  • assess food waste through Bin Trim assessments 
  • develop action plans that reduce food waste 
  • redistribute edible food locally
  • recover the remainder at a local facility. 

The Bin Trim Regional Manufacturing Circular Economy Project works with the manufacturing sector across the Riverina and Murray area (RAMJO) to: 

  • conduct Bin Trim assessments to develop waste action plans for potential materials for reuse etc
  • develop networks that find innovative local circular economy solutions to keep waste out of landfill. 

This is a hands-on role requiring travel across the region and a strong focus on project management, data management and reporting.

Responsibilities: 

The main responsibilities of this role are to deliver 2 Bin Trim Programs across the region with commercial food generators and manufacturers.  This includes:   

  • Stakeholder engagement 
  • Conducting Bin Trim waste assessments using the Bin Trim app 
  • Data collection, analysis  
  • Communicating data, potential solutions to stakeholders
  • Conducting events and workshops  
  • Drafting action plans and providing implementation support  
  • Providing progress reports  
  • Rebate applications  

Essential Requirements:  

  • Qualifications or equivalent experience in communications, community (including business or industry) engagement, environmental science, engineering, planning or any related discipline 
  • Demonstrated strong engagement skills across a range of stakeholders  
  • Proven ability to manage projects including effective time management, budgeting, data management and reporting 
  • Understanding of the circular economy and the application in the waste management sector in NSW 
  • Demonstrated communication skills as part of project management 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and the ability to readily learn new programs  
  • Independent worker that can also contribute to a team  
  • Driver’s licence and use of a vehicle 

Desirable Requirements: 

  • Experience implementing waste programs (local government, industry or community)
