Based in Unanderra, Hydrographic & Cadastral Survey is looking for a motivated Diploma or Cert IV survey student (or any related field student) who would like to learn hydrographic surveying through practical fieldwork.  Flexible with days that suit current studies.  Take the opportunity to learn a skillset that isn’t easily accessed through any education centre in Australia.

The activities include:

  1. Learning on-the-job under the mentorship of our certified hydrographic surveyor and/or experienced hydrographic technician.
  2. Learn about hydrographic survey technologies and progress through to independent survey equipment operation.  Equipment includes multibeam and singlebeam echosounders, sound velocity probes, side scan sonar, boat operation, hydrographic software for acquisition and processing and standard land survey equipment.
  3. Conduct field activities, maintain field notes and survey quality control.  A survey day normally runs between 8 to 10 hours and many of our activities are on Sydney Harbour.
  4. Prepare and maintain survey equipment.
  5. Use AutoCAD to produce plans.
  6. Review and be mentored in the creation of survey reports.
  7. Adherence to safety protocols and regulations while conducting survey work.
  8. Physical fitness and stamina to work outdoors in various weather conditions and challenging terrains.
  9. Prior experience or internships in surveying or a related field is an advantage.
