Purpose of the position

The role reports to and assists the Canteen Manager in the day to day running of the school canteen according to the policies and procedures of Hunters Hill High School P&C Association.

The Canteen Assistant will support the development of strong relationships within the school community in particular with the students, parents and volunteers, teachers and other school personnel.

Key Responsibilities

The Canteen Assistant under the supervision of the Canteen Manager assists with the day to day operations of the school canteen. This includes, but is not limited to, assisting with:

  • monitoring the day to day operations of the canteen, including daily food service;
  • food preparation;
  • implementing and managing procedures;
  • maintaining all inventory, including organising, daily restocking, annual stocktake;
  • handling of money;
  • inducting and training volunteers;
  • follow procedures and processes regarding food and workplace safety;
  • carrying out cleaning duties daily;
  • ensuring that the operation of the canteen is aligned with the values of the P&C, the school and school community;
  • compliance with Department of Education requirements and directives;
  • working with the P&C Executive to ensure that the Canteen operates in a safe, sustainable and professional manner, and serves the school community.

Essential criteria

  • Current Working with Children Check and Police Clearance.
  • Completed or willingness to complete, Food Handling Basics training or its equivalent.

  • Pay:  Salary is based on the Fast Food Industry Award (MA000003), Level 1, up to $32.06 per hour
  • Expected hours: Casual
  • Canteen opening hours: Monday to Friday, 9am to 2:30pm.
  • Work Authorisation: Australia working rights (required)
  • Work Location: In person at Hunters Hill High School
  • Expected hours: 3 – 6 per week
  • Schedule: No weekends
