Your role

The Hatch Vacation Student Program provides the opportunity to work on real projects and gain practical industry skills. They will help you through the transition, bridging the gap between your education and career.

As part of the Mineral Processing team, you will be provided with the opportunity to work on real projects and gain practical industry skills. Working alongside industry experts, you will develop specialist skills in the minerals processing industry while gaining exposure to technically challenging projects.

The Minerals Processing team works closely with other Hatch groups to provide a complete range of services to the global mining industry. This includes engineering design projects, consulting projects focused on the optimisation of existing operations, technology assessment and implementation projects. As a team member, you will assist in all areas of resource project development, integrating mine and process plant optimisation through detailed mathematical modelling and simulation.

For clients in Australia & internationally, you will assist with the development of processing plant flowsheets, equipment sizing for all unit operations, process flow diagrams, mass balances, operating and control strategies, capital and operating cost estimates and report writing for brownfield expansions and new greenfield projects. In their consulting and technology projects, you will develop models of minerals processing plants. These models will be used to optimise the plant operation and performance to maximise throughput and metal recovery, with the overall aim of improved profitability with minimal capital expenditure.

About you

You bring to the role:

  • A strong academic record while you have been studying for your bachelor’s degree in Minerals Processing, Metallurgical or Chemical Engineering
  • An interest in helping clients mine and process the minerals and metals used in everyday lives efficiently and sustainably
  • An interest in exploring a future career with a global engineering, consulting and technology company committed to creating positive change
  • Available for a minimum of 1, ideally 2, days per week during Semesters, and full-time during university breaks
  • The ability to think laterally and innovatively to solve problems
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with an ability to communicate proactively and collaboratively on tasks
  • Excellent planning and organisational skills, be outcome driven and self-motivated

The 12-week program commences on Monday, 18 Nov 2024. Please note, during this time Hatch will have its annual office closure from COB Friday, 20 December 2024 and will reopen Monday, 6 January 2025.
