Join a dynamic, experienced, and talented design studio on the NSW South Coast working on a wide variety of big and small projects.

The Junior System Admin & Developer will be responsible for Website & server maintenance & support; client-facing technical support; production of websites; and procedure/service improvement inputs.

The position will report to Handmade Web & Design co-owner, Anthony Colfelt, an experienced manager who has mentored and led the top design, user experience and development teams in Australia, the US and the UK for 25 years. They will also liaise closely with our team of system administrators, developers and producers.

As a junior at Handmade, you can expect to be supported, trained and mentored by an experienced team of developers, system administrators and designers within a collaborative and supportive environment.

Key responsibilities

  • Software development maintenance and updates (WordPress, Laravel, Statamic)
  • Testing & issue resolution in code, hosting, email, DNS and domains
  • Configuration, issue prevention and resolution of Linux servers across VPS and dedicated servers
  • Prevention and resolution of security issues with client websites e.g. installation of security measures or cleaning hacked WordPress sites
  • Site audits and resolution of health issues relating to our SEO activities
  • Providing friendly, responsive and professional technical support directly to clients in relation to their emails and website administration
  • Transferring of hosting/domains/email from other providers with minimal disruption to websites and email
  • Rigorous Quality Assurance testing of custom-developed software
  • Entering content into websites, including resizing and optimising images
  • Delivering to agreed deadlines with a high degree of quality and attention to detail

Required skills and characteristics

  • Demonstrable experience in building and managing WordPress websites, including back-end development, plugin installation/configuration, content entry, software updates and testing.
  • Experience and proficiency with web development programming languages such as PHP (Laravel desirable but not essential), MySQL, HTML, CSS, Javascript
  • Experience and proficiency in configuring Linux servers, and utilising WHM & cPanel to make updates to accounts and configurations
  • Demonstrable experience as a trouble-shooter who can work independently, including resolving email issues on a wide variety of platforms and devices.
  • Demonstrable experience with the set up/configuration/transfers of web hosting, domains, DNS records and email.
  • Experience with providing technical support to others in a friendly, easy to understand way.
  • Familiarity with using Google Apps/Gmail/Drive/Sheets and Microsoft Office 365.

Terms

  • Location: Handmade Web & Design's studio on Queen Street, Berry.
  • Full-time or part-time negotiable commencing ASAP (starting with paid casual part-time days as part of the interview process).
  • Occasionally, candidates may be required to work regular outside business hours to perform server upgrades/migrations and emergency maintenance.
  • Remuneration: Annual salary from $45,000 - $55,000 depending on skills and experience, plus superannuation, annual leave and $100 per annum health/wellness voucher.
