The Friendship Bakery is a Friendship Circle initiative. We are a friendly non-profit neighbourhood bakery that engages and connects people in the community with and without disabilities. We are based at Mark Moran Vaucluse and our inviting shop offers our clientele a delicious selection of pastries, biscuits, cakes, quiches and other baked goods made with high-quality ingredients.

About the role

We are seeking for a compassionate Production Lead who will lead an inclusive team and be responsible for the production of quality baked goods. You will work collaboratively with the Shop and Sales Manager and Capacity Building Program Manager and play a key role in the skills development program. This is a day-time and part-time position.

The responsibilities

• Produce from existing recipes, high-quality baked goods for the retail and online shop.
• Managing the workflows and production schedules of food production.
• Manage the relationship with suppliers and use 'Cooking the Books' for orders.
• Manage the food cost for each recipe.
• Manage stock levels, inventories and stock controls of ingredients.
• Operate various baking machines and equipment.
• Package the variety of breads and pastries.
• Maintain WHS, quality and hygiene standards at all times.
• Identify and implement necessary product, process and systems improvement.
• Conduct inspections checks of baked goods and ingredients.
• Maintain quality controls at all times.
• Manage and reduce wastes.
• Assist in product development for special event product lines, when required.
• Train, coach and motivate team members.
• Create a positive workplace environment.
• Attend management meetings, as required.

The requirements

• Qualification in Baking or Pastry Chef.
• Demonstrated experience in management of a bakery.
• Demonstrated experience in people management and leadership, including training and mentoring.
• Excellent communications skills, verbally and in writing.
• Strong organisational skills.
• Experience using 'Cooking the Books' programs is a plus!
• Ability to work comfortably with technology, with basic computer skills.
• Ability to use safe manual handling processes, to lift heavy dough.
