Your role

At Cowal, the substantial investment has led to a longer mine life as they have boldly reimagined the future to 2040. Located near West Wyalong in central New South Wales, Cowal is a residential site where the encourage our people to live nearby and enjoy the close-knit communities and lifestyles of the surrounding areas. 

You will report to the Senior Mining Engineer and contribute across the Open Pit team. The program will run from the beginning of December 2024 until the end of February 2025.  

You will gain exposure to:  

  • Undertake a Business Improvement Project and have an opportunity to present to Superintendents and/or the Site Leadership Team (SLT) .  
  • Technical and operational aspects of an open pit mine.  
  • Work alongside Mining Engineers gaining experience in: 
  • Mine planning,  
  • mine design,  
  • dumping design and staging strategies,  
  • drill and blast engineering.  
  • Gain experience in Mining software (Deswik, ShotPlus).

About you

Evolution Mining is looking for the following parameters from you:

  • Have the right to work in the relevant jurisdiction before commencing employment  
  • Be in your penultimate year of study  
  • Currently pursuing a degree in Mining Engineering, Science (Mining) or Engineering Science (Mining Engineering), or a related field.

Training & development

The intent of the Vacation Program is to support students who are looking to gain exposure to the industry and build a strong pipeline into the Graduate Program. At the end of your Program, they want you to walk away feeling confident and excited that your first experience with Evolution may not be your last. Many of their past Vacation Program students have gone on to join their Graduate Program.

Career progression

Upon the successful completion of your Vacation Program, you may be offered to continue working with them on a part-time or casual basis. The intent for this program is to build a strong pipeline into their Graduate Program and to continue to support your career development with them.
