This position entails the following:

  • Plan and review the goals to work on with the client, recreational activities, living skills, and personal care.
  • Provide assistance and supervision on medication administration.
  • Assist the client in the community and transportation.
  • Assist their involvement within the community and other potential activities.
  • Encourage communication and a trust-based work relationship.
  • Boost client self-confidence, reassure and set healthy and positive boundaries, and monitor the client's safety and well-being at all times.
  • Maintain professional relationships with clients and their families.
  • Maintain the Client’s privacy and confidentiality, and treat the client in a non-discriminatory way.
  • Comply with and follow the Empower Living Work, Health, and Safety Policies.
  • Comply with the NDIS code of conduct.
  • Comply with and follow the Empower Living procedures and policies.
  • Mandatory daily progress notes and risk assessments.
  • All-inclusive handover between team members.
  • Maintain the cleanliness of the client premises .
  • Report and document any accidents, incidents, hazards, or potential threats to the staff or client.
  • Proceed and maintain ongoing data collection and daily reports

Qualifications (these are preferred, but can be worked towards once hired):

  • Working with Vulnerable People card (WWVP).
  • Cleared Criminal Record Check obtained within 3 months
  • Certificate III, Certificate IV in Community Services/Mental health/Disability/Nursing, or able to demonstrate working toward these qualifications.
  • Highly preferred - Mental health first aid
  • Driver's license and access to a reliable/registered and fully insured vehicle.
  • Demonstrated experience and skills in working with Mental Health clients.
  • Proven skills and experience with Microsoft Office and APPS (Deputy).
  • Ability to re-organize client appointments if necessary.
  • Knowledge of basic legislation (Duty of care, dignity of risk, restrictive practices).
  • Be physically fit and be able to perform manual handling and personal care tasks.

Skills preferred:

  • Reliable, accountable, and resilient in dealing with different organisations, access to the community, and stressful situations.
  • Demonstrated awareness of disability challenges and mental health issues.
  • Demonstrated experience in situation de-escalation.
  • Mature and developed communication skills, including written and verbal communication.
  • Genuine desire to provide the best quality care for people with disabilities
  • Initiative and drive to work independently as well as part of a multicultural team
  • Demonstrated effective listening, empathy and communication skills.
  • Ability to think and act calmly and deal sensitively with distressed people.
  • Understanding of the principles of duty of care, rights to privacy and confidentiality.
  • Patience, flexibility and regulated authority
  • Working independently with minimum supervision required
