About Dunlea:

Dunlea Centre, Australia's original BoysTown, provides staff with a structured approach to intervention that encourages positive behaviour and consequences through the BoysTown Model of Care. The model focuses on helping students build healthy relationships, develop social skills and set them up for future success. Staff are expected to build positive relationships, model appropriate social skills, communicate expectations and remain consistent in delivering components of the BoysTown model. 

Applicants must be supportive of the aims and Salesian ethos of the Centre.

The role:

The role of the residential case worker focuses on proactive case management, incorporating and working with the youth, their family and any relevant external services. This role requires clear communication and the maintenance of accurate and up-to date case records.

The duties:

  • Building and establishing appropriate rapport with young people
  • Effectively implementing BoysTown Model of Care for young people’s benefit, goals and development 
  • Engage with young people in a range of different activities to improve their social skills
  • Communication with relevant staff, organisations and families to ensure individual program plans are achieved. 
  • Adhering to organisation policy and procedures regarding documentation and administration task and duties.
  • Day-to-day running and cleanliness of a residential house. 
  • Ability to work sensitively, professionally and with confidentially when engaging with young people, family and support workers. 
  • 4 residential shifts requiring 2 night’s sleep over Monday to Thursday and 3 hours minimum on Fridays. (Individual, private and fully furnished bedroom provided.)

The ideal candidate:

  • Current Working With Children Check
  • Police check or willingness to complete
  • Drivers license
  • First aid certificate or willingness to obtain
  • Desire to work/have a career within a youth-focused program
  • Experience preferred but not essential
  • Must have a strong work ethic and able to accept feedback
  • A commitment to the Salesian ethos of the centre is an essential condition of employment.
