The role

Cardno is looking to recruit a Graduate Structural Engineer (Ports & Maritime) to join Cardno's national Ports & Maritime team to be based in Brisbane in January 2022.

Located in Fortitude Valley in our global headquarters, we are conveniently located within a few minutes' walk to the train station and are surrounded by cafes and restaurants in the bustling King Street precinct.

Ideally we are seeking graduates that are due to complete their studies by the end of 2020 or 2021 and can be available for full time, permanent work in January 2022. As a graduate on our established 2 year Asia Pacific Graduate Development Program, you will learn all facets of engineering techniques, relevant software programs, and gain essential business skills to ensure your success in a global consulting environment. Candidate with one-year work experience are also accepted in the program and are encouraged to apply.

You will be Making a Difference by –

  • Participating in the delivery of key ports and maritime structural projects, from the proposal phase to final design and documentation
  • Preparing structural models, designing spreadsheets and supporting all elements of the project lifecycle from the proposal phase to final design and documentation
  • Assisting in detailed analysis, design and recommendations for a range of port and coastal projects
  • Assisting in feasibility studies, condition assessments and remedial works designs
  • Occasional interstate travel within Australasia to assist with feasibility studies and designs
  • Preparation of designs, specifications, data, calculations and reports
  • Assisting with business development and preparation of marketing material

About you

To be successful you will display –

  • Tertiary qualifications in Civil/Structural Engineering with completion in 2020 or by 2021. Academic excellence will be highly regarded. Double degrees will not be considered.
  • Previous work experience as graduate engineer will be favourable considered.
  • A passion for the engineering profession and willingness to learn from the broad team is essential for this role
  • The ability to work and collaborate within a team environment through well-developed interpersonal skills
  • Willingness to travel for short missions in Australia and occasionally overseas
  • Proven ability to learn and apply new structural concepts
  • Strong verbal communication skills to be able to present and articulate ideas to a wide variety of stakeholders and team members spread across multiple cities
  • A positive, initiative driven and proactive attitude
