Your role

Canopius is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented individual to join their team as a Financial Accountant at their Sydney office. The role involves handling all financial accounting matters related to the operation of the service company, with close liaison with Finance teams in Australia, Singapore, and London. This is an excellent opportunity for career advancement and professional growth.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Ensure timely and accurate preparation of internal technical reports, such as monthly paid claims bordereau to London.
  • Prepare ledger entries relating to premiums, claims, expenses, accruals, and cash.
  • Prepare quarterly Tax BAS reporting to the ATO.
  • Process monthly employee and supplier payments through SAP Concur.
  • Assist the Finance team with the allocation of premium collections by handling queries, monitoring and expediting the collection of brokers’ outstanding balances, and preparing credit control reports with updates on collections for management review.
  • Build strong working relationships and processes to ensure smooth communication between Australia, Singapore, and London offices.
  • Support Management with any ad hoc duties.

About you

This position is ideal for a recent university graduate with a relevant degree who is looking to undertake their CA or CPA qualification, or someone already in the process of taking exams. You should possess the following skills and experience to fit this role:

  • Computer literacy is essential.
  • Knowledge or experience in various Direct and Facultative Insurance classes of business is advantageous.
  • Knowledge of Lloyd’s business and operations is advantageous.
  • Experience in accounts receivable and payable, reconciliations, and cash accounting is valuable.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel is required.
  • Experience with SUN Accounting systems and SAP Concur is advantageous.
  • A mature responsible and can-do attitude to prioritise work and remain organised under pressure
