Your role:

In this full-time role, you'll be appointed to the rank of Lieutenant for a fixed term of three years, commencing 8 October 2021 based at the Maritime Operational Health Unit at HMAS Penguin, Mosman in Sydney. If required, your relocation to Sydney will be provided by the Navy.

The Maritime Operational Health unit is the Navy's deployable maritime medical unit where you'll deliver general medical and surgical nursing services both ashore and at sea in Navy ships.

You'll be part of a tight-knit team of professionals who enhance the unit's health capability so that it can provide surgical capacity and the ability for casualty holding for up to 72 hours.

In order to fulfil key parts of this role, you'll need to be willing to undertake sea service at short notice (48 hours) for extended periods.

Key duties include:

  • Delivery of nursing services other than general medical and surgical
  • Contribute to the development, implementation and review of administrative and clinical policies, procedures and instructions
  • Participate in governance and quality improvement activities
  • Contribute to research applicable to the delivery of general medical and surgical nursing services in the maritime environment
  • Participate in continuing education programs to develop and maintain clinical competencies.
  • Provide expert general medical and surgical care advice to ensure Navy facilities are ready for operational requirements

Salary:

Upon completion of your initial military and initial employment training, you'll enjoy a competitive starting salary package of $96,688 including service and uniform allowances.

For this role, you must have completed a Bachelor of Nursing degree and hold unrestricted registration as a Registered Nurse with AHPRA and have a minimum of 3-years of Adult In-patient Medical/Surgical Ward Nursing experience. Postgraduate qualifications in Acute Care or a related nursing field is desirable. You must also be an Australian Citizen and be able to obtain a Negative Vetting 1 security clearance required for the role.
