Your role: 

As a Mechanical Engineer, you’ll get hands-on experience and responsibility early in your career. You’ll be leading the team that looks after the mechanical aspects of the ship, both at sea and ashore. As the technical expert onboard, you’ll be responsible for the vessel’s structures and systems, anticipating and solving challenges, and making sure everything runs smoothly.  

Whilst studying for a job-relevant degree at your choice of an accredited university, you can join the Navy and have your fees paid for, earn a salary while you complete your degree, and walk straight into a great Navy role following graduation.  

Your duties include, but aren’t limited to:  

  • Leading and looking after your team of engineering personnel 
  • Ship structure 
  • Propulsion systems 
  • Electrical generation and distribution 
  • Domestic and associated mechanical services, 
  • Main and auxiliary machinery 
  • Engines 
  • Air conditioning 
  • Hydraulics

Salary: 

When you first join the Navy and while studying for your degree at the university of your choice, you will be paid between $35,326 and $54,166 depending on your year of study. 

Upon completion of your degree, initial military and employment training, you’ll enjoy a salary package starting from $100,845.
