Picture yourself putting your nursing skills to the test, supporting disaster-relief missions in remote places all around the world. A career in nursing has unique rewards and demands. But imagine how interesting that career could be in the Air Force working across Australia or possibly overseas.

Your role

As a Nurse in the Air Force, many of your nursing duties will be familiar, but your workplace could range from a well-resourced hospital to an operational base providing aid in a combat zone, or the scene of a natural disaster.

You'll be required to show both initiative and flexibility as you adapt to the dynamics of remote localities, new conditions and other challenges.
In addition to fulfilling the deployed role, you'll gain and employ valuable primary health care skills whilst working at base health care centres.

Your skills could be employed across multiple areas. From general nursing duties and inpatient/outpatient care to aeromedical evacuation, facility management and health education – there will be no lack of variety.

On top of this, as an Air Force Officer you'll be trained to become an inspirational leader and mentor; adept at effectively communicating with and managing teams, with a comprehensive knowledge of Air Force attitudes, values and military protocols and procedures.

Salary

You will earn a good salary from day one, and be paid to train and learn the skills required. On completion of your initial military training and initial employment training, you could earn $82,574 per annum plus 16.4% superannuation, and your salary increases as you progress.

Location

Upon completion of your training in Victoria, Queensland and South Australia, you may be posted to one of the major Air Force bases around Australia such as RAAF Base Amberley, RAAF Base Darwin or RAAF Base Tindal.

Life in the Air Force

When you join the Air Force, you'll benefit from our investment in your professional growth and development, enjoy great work/life balance, a supportive team environment and extensive benefits – from free healthcare to excellent fitness facilities. Plus, there's the potential for overseas travel.

In addition, there are the meaningful experiences that come with serving your country. From participating in Air Force exercises and operations to providing support to communities in need, this is your opportunity to take on a career with many rewarding dimensions.

Apply now

For this role, you must be an Australian citizen and over 17 at the time of enlistment. Applications will be accepted from those at varying stages of education from students of nursing (who may be eligible for sponsorship) to graduates with a Bachelor of Nursing Degree.

You must also be able to obtain a security clearance and meet the minimum medical and fitness requirements. More information is available below.
