If you have a thorough understanding of the ins and outs of public relations, and you know how to build a strategy that achieves cut-through with key audiences, you'll enjoy the variety offered in this communication role. Being an expert at thinking outside the box, a strong communicator and quick on your feet will make you an ideal candidate for this position.

The role:

As a Public Relations Officer enlisted in the Army, you'll lead a team of uniformed public relations experts to promote the Army's mission and maintain its reputation for protecting Australia's national interests. Your duties will include advising Army Commanders on issues management, developing and executing communication strategies, and liaising with media.

On top of that, you'll conduct media awareness training, write press releases and manage the production of content such as photographs, videos, social media and articles—all tasks you're familiar with, but with an even more rewarding purpose.

As part of this role, you'll be required to undertake military training, maintain an ongoing level of fitness and be willing to be posted to a military base in Australia or overseas. Whilst the role may be challenging, the personal satisfaction and reward that comes with the achievements make it worthwhile.

Training:

With your public relations qualifications, the Defence Force will teach you all the skills you require through leadership and military training at the Royal Military College, Duntroon in Canberra. This initial training is 42 days.

Following your initial training, as a Public Relations Officer, you will attend a range of specialist Military Public Affairs and other military courses to enhance your skills.

Salary:

In the Army, you'll get paid a highly competitive salary of $98,607 per annum plus a generous 16.4% super from day one regardless of your age, experience or qualifications.

Location:

You'll get to take advantage of the many opportunities to see more of Australia and the world. You could work in a specialist public affairs unit, as a staff adviser around Australia, at Australian Defence Headquarters in Canberra, or other units in Sydney, Brisbane, Townsville and Darwin, or deploy overseas on operations, exercises or other Defence activities. It's not possible to guarantee a specific posting location for the duration of your service, therefore you must be willing to relocate.

Life in the Army:

Action, adventure, exciting career opportunities and amazing mateship—there's so much to love about life in the Army. Whether you're looking to pick up a new skill or are up for a new challenge, you'll find it all in the Army.

Not to mention there's also the sense of accomplishment and pride that comes from serving your country and providing support to communities in need, both here and overseas.

This is no ordinary job—but that's exactly what you're looking for. Enjoy a rewarding career, opportunities to travel, excellent fitness facilities, and free medical and dental; all in a dynamic and fulfilling work environment.
