Please provide further information on diversity with respect to women, ethnic minorities and LGBT. Please comment on issues such as recruitment, retention, promotion, child care, maternity leave, etc.
It is encouraging to see so many women at partner level in the firm. i think more could be done on cultural and ethnic diversity, however. i also think we could do more for the lgbtiqa+ community - e.g. mardi gras events, wear it purple day etc.

Ashurst has diversity and support groups which cover almost every category of persons. its goal is to become the most progressive law firm, which is reflective of its commitment to diversity and related issues generally.
Graduate, Sydney - 07 Nov 2019
Diversity with respect to women is getting stronger and stronger. we have a good percentage of women leaders. we are good at supporting women who take maternity leave and have child care responsibilities. we could do more in the ethnic minorities and lgbt space, at least in my office/

Retention of mothers is difficult, child care costs are not supported (or considered). i do believe that the company does want to be more diverse and is open to criticism to improve.

Graduate, Sydney - 16 Jul 2019
On gender diversity, the firm is excellent on the lower ranks but is moving in the right direction for the partner-level. on lgbti, my firm is very inclusive. there has been less of a focus on ethnic diversity but i certainly do not feel there has been anything negative on this front

I think recruitment policy is based on merit, which i think is appropriate. in that way, an applicant's background is less relevant, if at all, than their calibre as a candidate

The firm tries very hard to remove biases from recruitment and do recruit from a diverse pool of law students, not just exclusively from seasonal clerkships
