The Role

AARNet is seeking a motivated Drafter to work within the Geographical Information Systems Team, assisting us deliver next the generation of telecommunication services to Australia’s academic and research sector.

Supported by on-the-job training and skills development, you will bring to the role a strong capacity to learn, observe and apply new knowledge.  The Drafter will perform a range of design and drafting activities for AARNet’s growing national optical network and your attention to detail will be crucial as you efficiently process network data and produce accurate project documentation. 

Mentored by skilled GIS Operators, Construction Drafters and Engineers, your ability to think analytically will help you translate your drafting experience, knowledge and/or training successfully at AARNet.

Candidates with recent or impending qualifications from TAFE courses such as Engineering Drafting, Manufacturing Drafting (CAD/Drafting), Civil Construction Design or Spatial Information Services are encouraged to apply.  

Responsibilities

  • Provide prompt and efficient drafting & geospatial support to the Infrastructure Development group. 
  • Utilise previous experience/training with AutoCAD and its products to generate accurate and detailed drawings for telecommunications infrastructure projects.
  • Work effectively with data from a variety of sources, combining them to create drawings and maps that effectively communicate project requirements with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Support the maintenance of asset management systems for access to network data including reviewing drawings for accuracy and technical compliance
  • Balance competing priorities to effectively collaborate with designers, drafters, & construction managers 

Expertise, experience & qualifications

  • You are an Australian citizen
  • You are proficient using AutoCAD
  • You have excellent computer skills and are comfortable using and adapting to a broad range of office software applications including Excel & Visio
  • You have strong time management & organisational skills 
  • You are confident working independently
  • You have solid verbal and written communication skills
